多数蝇种类宜在气温25～30℃之间生产繁殖，12℃以下则停止发育，不交配产卵。若温度超过35℃，种蝇骚动不安，39℃时不能产卵，40℃时种蝇逐渐死亡。蛆有避光性，当强光照射时，就会钻到粪堆底部。温度及饵料养分对蛆的生长发育有很大影响，一般室温控制在22～23℃，相对湿度60%～80%范围内，温度愈高消耗养料愈多，蛆的生长发育越快，蛆就越大，化成蛹也越大。主要孳生在人畜粪便堆、垃圾、物质中，取食粪便及腐烂物质，也有的生活于动物尸体中。种蝇有飞翔力，须笼养。采用木条或直径6.5毫米钢筋制成65厘米×80厘米×90厘米的长方形框架，在架外蒙上塑料窗纱或细眼铜丝网，并在笼网一侧安上纱布手套，以便喂食和操作。每个蝇笼中配备1个饲料盆和1个饮水器。1个笼可养成蝇4万~5万只。种蝇用5%的糖浆和奶粉饲喂；或将鲜蛆磨碎，取95克蛆浆，5克啤酒酵母，加入155毫升冷开水，混匀后饲喂。初养时可用臭鸡蛋，放入白色的小瓷缸内喂养。饲料和水每天更换1次。育种蝇种蝇的来源，可将蝇蛹洗净放入种蝇笼内，待其羽化到5%时开始投食和供水。种蝇开始交尾后3天放入产卵盘。盘内盛入2/3高度的引诱料。

Each fly cage is equipped with a feed bowl and a drinker. A cage can raise 40,000 to 50,000 adult flies. Seed flies were fed with 5% syrup and milk powder; or fresh taro were ground, 95 g mash, 5 g brewer's yeast, 155 ml cold boiled water, mixed and fed. When roosting, you can use stinky eggs and feed them in a white porcelain jar. Feed and water are changed once a day. The source of the breeding flies can be cleaned and placed into the fly cage, and the feeding and water supply can be started when it reaches 5%. Three days after the flies began mating, they were placed in spawning trays. The dish is filled with 2/3 height of attractant.
